I used to live in South London There’s not much of it left He used to part of a team There’s not much of them left But it's all bless Don't even stress I figured we were the same Come from scattered bottled broken estates His loose lips kept their promise Blowing off the heads of broken promise Priced out forced change More rent to pay Locked down full days Big blue out late Slow times hold weight Cut ties outbreak Make no mistake We’ll show our face in South South South South Steel bars on his head Fighting habits and threats Drinking low tides Skating Brixton at night The country's a mess Showing no progress We’ll build this fire from the troops and the lies Dancing round the issue They're fighting for their crown They're trying to keep us under the thumb and keep our minds locked down Your questions are your answers, You know it in your soul They don't want to be truthful They don't want to lose control of South South South South I used to live in North London There’s not much of it left (The) city know we living inna dis 254 know even more than my history Knows doors we whispered to on floors made of prism Know forgiveness, Know everything But my soul’s a bloody mystery Embers know of homes swept away by the furnace Ever seen a city burn alert? (You) learn to worship the dust Cup overflowing bricks We deserved it We heard you But do we keep the church or service? Sermons feeling further away from my verbiage I’m hurting Winter clapping back at my sternum It’s murking me I respect the urgency Earnestly If it cracks the spirit of a lion it deserves it I’m afraid that day ain’t today or another Jah Cover me and whatever will need to be covered Cover everything weather I’m in need or I got it City in my pocket clutching at my _

about

South is the new single from South London producer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist Wu-Lu, featuring Lex Amor.

A track largely based on growing up in inner-city London, it’s a first-hand account of witnessing everything you know about your city being broken down, about gentrification and relationships deteriorating as you get older.

Using his voice to speak up for the silenced and the marginalised through his music means he’s able to communicate his message in a powerful and expressive way, as displayed in his latest track. Written long before the Black Lives Matter movement took momentum, ‘South’ was an outlet for him to convey the thoughts and feelings that he always had, with the message only becoming clearer and more prominent with the movement gathering pace very recently.

Cultivating a new sound that lies between the interplay of underground punk and alternative hip-hop, Wu-Lu is stepping out on his own terms with his voice louder than ever.

Growing up in a musical family, the multi-hyphenate artist has a unique ability to straddle seemingly disparate worlds of music unlike anyone else. Having spent years experimenting with lo-fi, psychedelic guitar and off-kilter hip-hop he is now pushing forward into the world of underground punk with an unparalleled confidence.

His undisputed roots in the city’s scene are highlighted through affiliations with musical movement Touching Bass, and co-signs from fellow stalwarts Black Midi, Sorry and Show Me The Body to name a few. With an innate ability to deliver his unique point of view through an ever-evolving and always innovative sound, Wu-Lu continues to show just why he should be at the forefront of the UK music scene whilst remaining refreshingly underground and relatable.
